Our Stay at KOA Flagstaff Campground

Do you need a getaway at times? Working from home the past nine months has made my family stir crazy. We need a change of scenery every now and then. We recently booked a cabin in Flagstaff, Arizona and it was the best trip of our year. We stayed at the KOA Flagstaff Campground in the amazing Deluxe Cabin. Read on to find out more about our stay!

The Campground

KOA Flagstaff Campground is a beautiful mountain campground nestled at the base of the San Francisco Peaks. The campground offers the following amenities:

-free wi-fi

- 50 amp

- RV patio sites

- new big-rig friendly RV sites

- authentic teepee's

- deluxe cabins with bathrooms & linens

- rustic camping cabins

- tent sites

- cable TV

- laundry facilities

- clean restrooms and showers

- on-site groceries and souvenirs

The site is located on route 66 and just an hour from the beautiful Red Rocks of Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon, an hour and a half from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, 99 miles from the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert, two hours from Lake Powell and 30 minutes from Meteor Crater, Walnut Canyon and Native American Ruins. It makes a great place to stay for your next family trip!

Our Stay

My family was particularly excited about this trip because it was forecasted to snow all weekend. Our little girl has only played in delivered snow on her daycare playground. We were excited to see her experience snow fall. The drive to the campground from Phoenix was only 2 hours and it was easy to find in the city. As we drove up, there were signs leading to the check in which was also the on-site grocery store. I was greeted happily by the staff and check-in was a breeze. The campground only has two deluxe cabins so it was easy to find on the map that was given to us at check-in.

The cabin was larger than I imagined and the pictures online doesn't do it justice. The Deluxe Cabin has the following features:

Sleeps up to 6 people.

  • 1 Bed-Full Futon/Sleeper Sofa

  • Sleeping Loft

  • 1 Bed-Queen Bed

  • 1 Bed-King Bed

  • Linens Provided

  • 1 Bedroom

  • Full Kitchen

  • Full Bath with Shower

  • No Pets Allowed

It honestly has everything you need for a family stay. It was so convenient to have a full kitchen since the cafe was closed due to COVID reasons. We were able to cook breakfast in the morning, enjoy coffee and hot cocoa in the evening. When it came to bedtime, our little family snuggled up on the king size bed and slept until it was light out. I would highly recommend the deluxe cabin for larger families since there is TONS of space.

Our favorite feature of the campground was the playground. We were hoping it was open because their website said a few of the kids amenities were disabled due to COVID. Our little girl played for hours on the playground and got so much energy out.

We also loved that the campground was only 5 minutes away from shopping and restaurants. We ventured out for shopping at the Flagstaff Mall, which has a nice play area for kids. For dinner, we ate at Fat Olives which was only 7 minutes down the road.

Overall, we LOVED this trip and stay at KOA Flagstaff Campground. It enabled us to be in cooler weather and spend some quality family time with each other. I highly recommend booking their deluxe cabin for your next family trip!
