Beat the Heat at Camp Kierland at The Westin Kierland Resort

Summer can be unbearable in Phoenix but it doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. One of our favorite things to do as a family to beat the heat is a staycay. Staying at The Westin Kierland Resort has become our summer tradition. It’s always a fun packed weekend filled with the best activities, pools and food. I am also a BIG nerd for themes and their summer theme is Camp Kierland. On summer Saturdays camp-goers may enjoy river and water activities such as rafting and kayaking, a craft cabin with sleep-away-camp favorites, stargazing and unlimited campfire s’mores with roasting to musical entertainment. In addition, FlowRider Surf Camp will be available all summer long, and fun in the sun continues with Lazy River floating, rides down the 110-foot waterslide, choreographed Flow Shows, a poolside DJ, games, savory scout-inspired cuisine, s’mores cocktails and more. It really is perfect place to stay for adults AND children.

The Rooms

The rooms at The Westin Kierland Resort are both comfortable and beautiful. The most pleasing amenity is the balcony which overlooks the lush 27 hole golf course and amazing Scottsdale skyline. The family and I woke up each morning and went straight to the balcony to have our morning coffee. You honestly can't beat the view! I am also a fan of their LUSCIOUS beds. It's like sleeping on a bed cloud. The bathroom is not too shabby as well. I like that the bath tub and shower are separated. This made it easy to give Zoe a bath in the evening.

The Pool

I can't even begin to tell you how much we love their POOL. Tons of fun, ALL DAY EVERY DAY! We spent 80% percent of our time in their amazing Adventure Waterpark and Pool. The resort has two pools (adult only and all ages), a lazy river, water slide and FlowRider. Our stay would not be the same without our cabana rental. We highly recommend getting one if you plan on staying at the pool most of the day. Each cabana rental comes with frozen grapes, Fiji water, chips and salsa, and a safe to keep your valuables in. Zoe was definitely living her best life in the cabana. You're also able to order food starting at 11 am and have lunch at your cabana. Throughout the day, the resort hosts activities at almost every hour. Our favorite activity to partake in was S'mores night. Zoe is a big fan of marshmallow! Honestly don't blame her. When you arrive, don't forget to pick up an activity schedule because you don't want to miss out on so much FUN!

The Dining

Eating well at The Westin Kierland Resort is not a problem. The resort boasts some of the most talented chefs in the Phoenix area. I've had a taste of a few of the dining establishments and I'm truly impressed. If you're up for some amazing breakfast, check out Nellie Cashman's Monday Club Cafe. They also have a Sunday Brunch spread that is spectacular. If you're up for fancy and delicious, check out deseo which showcases Contemporary Latin Cuisine. And if you're a whiskey fan, visit the Waltz & Weiser Whiskey Bar and Cantina.

Guests may enjoy the resort’s Camp Kierland Package with rates starting from $169 a night with a $50 per room, per night resort credit. Upgrades include a VIP Camp Kierland pass and a take-home teepee tent amenity.
